Starting this proyect

Welp, I finally took the leap of faith. I've had this idea for a long time and made many drafts of a game design document for it.

This project's title is Rhythmic Runner and I think the name is pretty self-explanatory. It's core gameplay will be an auto-scrolling type of platformer in which you'll have to run from point A to point B and the levels are designed in a way that every action like jumping and punching will be in sync with the music (Like Geometry Dash, for example). I'll share some details about what I have planned for this prototype. Keep in mind that it is subject to change:

  •  Game duration: I plan to make 3 levels and a boss fight. Each one will have a duration of 1 or 2 minutes at max. I'm still considering adding dialogue, so for now the gameplay of this prototype from start to finish could last around 10 minutes.
  • Game mechanics: Aside from the jumping, punching and the autoscroll tricks that I'll try to replicate from Rayman Legends, I want to implement some gimmicks from Modern Sonic games in a 2D environment, like the springs, dash panels, dash rings, ramps and jump panels.
  • Level design: I'll be taking a lot of notes from the level design and thought process that went into the music levels for Rayman Legends, the 2D sections of boost formula Sonic and some Geometry Dash levels.

And that's it. Obviously, this project will have some changes in the future and nothing is set in stone. I hope to learn a lot from this project in terms of making updates and making devlogs. Maybe I'll start a YouTube channel and do some tutorials of the gimmicks in Sonic games, since I haven't found many of them. Until next time! :D
